Emergency Asthma Management Course

The Emergency Asthma Management course is designed to establish the essential skills and underpinning knowledge necessary to assist a person suffering an emergency asthma attack until the arrival of medical assistance. This course has been developed and accredited by The Asthma Foundation

How long does it go for?

This course is delivered by Red Cross College trainers and runs for 3 hours.

What will I study?

This course provides a working knowledge of the management of asthma within four set modules:

  • Children’s Services Setting
  • Workplace Setting
  • Schools Setting
  • Sports Setting

  • Asthma in the community 
  • What is asthma?
  • Triggers
  • Asthma Medications
  • Emergency asthma management
  • Asthma emergency kits
  • Asthma emergency kits

Do I need to have completed previous study?

There are no prerequisites for this course.


Participants will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies and a written quiz.

On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment: Course in Emergency Asthma Management (21886VIC).
